The Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition returned for the first time since 2019, hosting five national aerobatic teams: August 1st, Al Fursan, the Jupiter Aerobatic Team, the Russian Knights and the Black Eagles. The Royal Malaysian Air Force provided their ever-popular F/A-18D Hornet and Su-30MKM solo displays, but the star of the show was their 'Opening Gambit' performance, featuring over 30 jets, helicopters and transports in a tightly-choreographed eight minute performance.

With the opening ceremony for the 16th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition being held last night, this morning's event to get the show going was only a matter of formality. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Transport Minister Anthony Loke jointly signalled the beginning of the opening gambit by pressing a button on the main stage. Mere seconds later, a Royal Malaysian Air Force F/A-18D Hornet came screaming past from the rear, taking everyone by surprise and causing many to scream themselves and cover their ears. At the launch of the exhibition the night before, both Mohamad and Loke extolled the importance of the show. The day began with the Gracing Ceremony held at the airfield of the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) which was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Utama Mohd Hasan – the Minister of Defence Malaysia. Other VIPs present were YB Tuan Anthony Loke Siew Fook – the Minister of Transport Malaysia and the Menteri Besar of Kedah YAB Dato’ Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as well as local and foreign dignitaries such as General Tan Sri Affendi Buang – Chief of Defence Forces Malaysia, representatives from major exhibitors such as Thales and Saab, and officials from various Malaysian Ministries. The highlight of the Gracing Ceremony was the aerial display performed by 36 air assets from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as well as from the Malaysian Army and Air Force Special Forces (PASAKAU). Among the fixed and rotary-wing aircraft involved in the opening gimmick were the Sukhoi SU-30MKM and F/A-18D Hornet fighter jets, as well as the EC-725AP, AW 139 and AW 109 helicopters. The second Gracing Ceremony of the day – for the Maritime Segment – was held later in the afternoon at Resorts World Langkawi.
